One Minden Tapas Kitchen – A Brunch With All Spanish Tapas You Crave For

A few years ago, I could have never understood the concept of weekend brunch. To me, it’s too time consuming and the food selection is not as much as lunch / dinner. Recently I found that it is so not true, because there are many restaurants offering delicious weekend brunch, that is even better than hotels.

Mainly western or European style restaurants are offering brunch, sometimes with free flow drinks. One Minden Tapas Kitchen is obvious a Spanish restaurant offering a wide range of tapas for their brunch and actually other time of the day too.

The interior is very spacious and awakening because of the bright natural light coming through their glass windows. The seats are also comfy with bar table, high tables and normal wooden tables.

There is an area facing the street, decorated with playful chairs with interesting slogans but we havent see people sitting there yet because Minden Avenue can be pretty busy during the weedneds, so customers may prefer inner seating area .

There is also an encouraging slogan on the wall reminding the diners to “Believe there is good in the worst”, particularly inspiring during a weekend brunch.

The brunch costs $278 pp with all you can eat tapas but drinks have to be ordered individually because there is no free flow packages here. They have lots of alcoholic drinks choices like cocktails, wine, beer, as well as non-alcoholic like juice and coffee/tea.

Bloody Mary $58
Red Wine Sangria $58

We have ordered bloody mary and sangria and they are both really good. Flavour-wise, they are on point and have everything we were expecting. I particularly liked that the bloody mary that has a spicy kick to it.

Juice $35

They have fresh orange and mango juice and we have chosen the latter one but I think orange juice should be a safer choice next time.

Among their 20 kinds of tapas to choose from, they are separated into categories like seafood, meat, bread, egg, veggies, and desserts. We have ordered a few of them so that we can give you a more comprehensive review.

The serving is based on per head and they are all freshly made, and they are all in small tapas size so that you can try more variety without stuffing yourself.

Pork and Cheese Roll

The rolls are deep fried until golden brown and served with mayo. They are freshly prepared so it’s really hot, be careful with that. The rolls are packed with layers of pork and melted cheese. Once you bite into it, the cheese with a light sour taste just ooze out!! OMG~~~~ How can you not order that? It’s playful and tasteful at the same time!

Pork Belly Montadito

A classic tapas from the Spain using baguette as the base, with a spread of fresh diced tomato. The pork belly on top is slightly dry yet still juicy. Once again, it’s quite garlicky because a little bit of crushed fried garlic is added on top, to give that little extra flavour to the lean clean pork slice.

Truffle Bikini

It’s almost a trend to see this dish on a Spanish restaurant’s menu. Comparatively, their toast is a bit thicker and softer in texture so that it  is not as crunchy, but the ingredients remained tasteful with some ham, rockets, truffle paste and some melted savoury cheese.

Wasabi Squid Bao

The first dish comes with a surprise because the bao is actually dyed with ink in black colour. The freshly deep fried squid in the middle is very soft and tender, with just a touch of mayo sandwiching between the bun. It’s rather light because there is no heavy seasonings to it. What a great piece to start with.

Cod Brandada

This is also a very delicious bite. A grilled pepper stuffed with mashed cod. The mash is really smooth with a hint of fish taste. The pepper on the outside is very sweet and juicy. The whole piece looks very slobbery but it is still holding its place nicely. A must order from the menu!

Moving on to the egg dishes, we have picked two and we would have never regret it because they are finger liking good!

Chorizo broken egg

The next one is with chorizo. This time, the presentation is a bit different. The potato fries are at the bottom, topped with a sunny side up, and 3 pieces of chorizo. Besides, some paprika is also sprinkled on top to give a strong smokey taste to it.

The chorizo has a bit of spicy kick to it, while the egg is once again nicely cooked until runny in the centre. It’s really tasty from the Spanish sausage and the runny yolk just intensified the dish.

Basque cod scrambled egg

If you have never had cod with egg, then you must try it out because they are the perfect match. The scrambled egg is beautifully done. It remained moist and wobbly, while the cod is diced into small pieces and hidden inside the scrambled egg. The slight fishy taste promote the flavour of the egg, and they actually did complimented each other flawlessly. The pile of fried potato strings gave a nice crunch to this dish which is almost irresistible.

Seafood paella

Using similar seafood ingredient, this paella is just another version of the most traditional Japanese dish, but with rice. Though the seafood taste is strong, the rice this time to me can be a bit more moist but remained al dente.

Comparatively, I think I like the previous fideua more because it’s more flavourful with the squid ink taste.

Desserts

We went all in and ordered everything. Curros, creme catalan, and fruits.

Starting from creme catalan, to me I think it’s pretty on point, it’s lightly and thinner than creme brulee but it still has a nice surgary crunchy top. I remember I had a giant bowl of it when I was in Barcelona!

Moving on, fruit bowl is pretty basic with a mix of oranges, pineapple and green apples,  a great cleanse after all those deep fried goodness.

Lastly, you can’t leave a Spanish restaurant without some good churros. Cheese cinnamon sugar covered deep fried dough is light and fluffy, but still very crunchy on the outside.

The chocolate sauce provided is quality! It’s thick and rather bittersweet. A very delicious piece of churros to enjoy and we couldn’t help but eating all of them even though we are too full already.

Cappuccino $30

We would like to stay a little bit longer so we have ordered a cup of cappuccino which is a wowzer! It’s fluffy, foamy, warm, almost the best presented cappuccino I have ever seen for a long time! Another OMG!!! For $30, it definitely worths it!

Thanks for the hospitality and good food for only $278 . I think I would recommend my fds to come here to enjoy a relaxing weekend. The good point is that you can order as many as you wish within that 2 hours timeframe and it’s quite valueable in terms of TST price range. So, go and make your reservation now!
