Food Review: La Creperie (Causeway Bay)

La Creperie was founded in Shanghai and it has opened another branch in Causeway Bay featuring its Brittany cuisine from France. The newly opened restaurant is decorated with a lot of sea marine like style with light towers salt and pepper jar, sailboat models, uncle captain, and the very special bowl-like cup for you to enjoy their French ciders.

We had been honored to savour their new Le French Gourmay menu which was is available in May and June. It is basically a special a la carte menu which you can choose whatever you like. Sneak peak, although the menu is only available for a limited time, it is likely that some of the items will be extended due to their popularity! Yay!

A wide range of different French cider on the shelve along with the dish like submarine window.

When we first arrived the restaurant, we were wondering why there are bowls in this French restaurant? Then we found that they are actually the traditional bowl-like cup that French people drink cider with, and there are also our favourite light tower salt and pepper jar, what a nice decor on the tables!

Wouldn’t it be too noisy to use it while the dish arrive the counter? We weren’t lucky enough to see the staff  using it, or did they ever use it? We reckon it’s probably just another nice decor.

Uncle captain looks a bit concerned. Is the weather good enough for sailing today?

Finally we have taken enough photos and have started ordering some of the best dishes from the Le French Gourmet menu. We had been recommended a few starters, a savory galettes and a sweet crepe.

Carpaccio of Hokkaido Scallops and black truffle paste 70% – $98

There are two different ciders, dry and sweet. They are both very smooth and bubbly, the sweet one is less sweet than usual while the dry one is not bitter at all but with a flavourful fruit taste to it. They are both definitely different from other American sweet apple/pear ciders.

Pan fried French duck liver with caramelised apple and sweet apple cider sauce – $98

La Canette – Elemental cheese, duck confit, bell peppers fondue and piment d’Espelette Jelly – $128

Le Defi – Caramelised banana, salted butter with caramel icecream – $68

Overall, we enjoyed the meal very much and we are definitely going to come back again for other kind of crepes or galettes and will recommend it to our friends! The price is very affordable, it won’t take much to fill you up. The environment is quite cozy with a nice view to the Hong Kong skyline. The service is very thoughtful, it is probably one of the best I had compared to other western restaurants in Hong Kong.
